What is flushing?

Symptoms are usually described as redness, itching, or rash. In clinical studies, this was one of the most common side effects of dimethyl fumarate, a medicine with the same active metabolite as VUMERITY.

Tips for handling flushing

Call your healthcare provider if you have any questions about VUMERITY side effects or treatment in general.

Taking a non-coated aspirin (up to 325 mg) 30 minutes before taking VUMERITY may help with flushing

Taking VUMERITY with food (avoid high-fat, high-calorie meal or snack) may help with flushing

Find what works for you

Taking aspirin might help manage flushing. Talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist for suggestions. Remember to read the directions on the package when taking any over-the-counter medications, and only take as instructed.

If side effects bother you or don't go away, or if you have general questions about side effects, talk to your healthcare provider.

What are stomach problems?

Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, or indigestion. In clinical studies, these were some of the most common side effects of dimethyl fumarate, a medicine with the same active metabolite as VUMERITY.

Tips for handling stomach problems

Call your healthcare provider if you have any questions about VUMERITY side effects or treatment in general.

Over-the-counter medicines like antacids may help relieve stomach problems*

Talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist for suggestions. Remember to read the directions on the package when taking any over-the-counter medications, and only take as instructed.

*In a 12-week study of people taking dimethyl fumarate (a medicine with the same active metabolite as VUMERITY), people recorded their experience of stomach problems, and what they did to manage them. They found that taking over-the-counter medicines helped.

You could have other side effects. If they bother you or don't go away, or if you have general questions about side effects, talk to your healthcare provider.

Decrease in common side effects over time

Flushing and stomach problems are the most common reactions, especially at the start of therapy, and may decrease over time. These are not all the possible side effects of VUMERITY.
