How to take VUMERITY

During your first week, you’ll take the starter dose (231 mg) as one pill twice a day.

After your first week, you’ll take the regular dose (462 mg) as two pills twice a day. It's important to take VUMERITY® (diroximel fumarate) exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Swallow VUMERITY whole. Do not crush, chew, or sprinkle contents on food.

If you take too much VUMERITY, call your healthcare provider or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.

What should you know about food?

If you take VUMERITY with food, avoid taking it with a high-fat, high-calorie meal or snack.

  • Your meal or snack should contain no more than 700 calories and no more than 30 g of fat

Here are two examples that follow these guidelines:

  • 1 whole wheat English muffin
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 1 banana
  • 8 ounces 2% reduced-fat milk
  • 4 ounces skinless chicken breast
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup broccoli
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ cup ice cream

What should I avoid while taking VUMERITY?

  • Do not drink alcohol at the same time as you take a VUMERITY dose

How does your VUMERITY arrive?

VUMERITY is not available at your local pharmacy or standard mail order service, but you don’t have to go out of your way to get it. Your healthcare provider's office and your insurance company will work together to order it from a specialty pharmacy. This type of pharmacy carries medicines that need special handling or storage. Once an order is placed on your behalf, it is shipped directly to you.
